Boys Trailblazer Conference Frontrunner Ashland-Greenwood Looking for a Repeat

    By Dean BackesNovember 13, 2025

A year ago, Ashland-Greenwood battled its way through the Class C1 State Basketball bracket as the No. 5 seed and took home the state championship hardware after going 23-5 on the season. In 2025-26, Bluejay opponents will be ready and waiting to pull the upset.

Jacob Mohs' club looks loaded, however, with three returnees that scored 11 or more points an outing a year ago. In all, five players with eligibility left earned postseason honors last winter.

First Team Class C1 All-State forward Derek Tonjes, a senior, leads the way for Mohs after scoring 16.6 points and ripping down 7.7 rebounds a contest as a junior while earning credit for 58 assists, 40 steals and 26 blocked Shots.

Senior Cooper Westerhold boosted the Ashland-Greenwood attack by scoring 12.4 points, reeling in 4.2 boards and dishing out 48 assists, stealing 35 enemy balls and blocking 27 shots. Senior guard Cal Kissinger added 11.1 points a game and 3.0 rebounds to go with 44 assists, 20 steals and eight blocked shots.

Class B power Wahoo returns six players that scored five points or more from a team that went 22-5 and qualified for the state basketball tournament in Nebraska's second largest class. Senior Cody Hesser averaged 11.3 points and 4.4 rebounds for TJ O'Connor's squad last year. The 6-foot-5 forward also dished out 64 assists and was credited with 51 steals and 10 blocked shots

Seniors Eli Shada, Kip Brigham and Jase Kaminski all scored between 5.3-7.1 points a contest while sophomore Landon Glock and junior Ethan Raabe combined for 11.7 points an outing collectively. Platteview went 17-9 a year ago and could make a push high into the conference standings.

    Enough of my rambling. Enjoy!
