Big-Game Experienced Milford Girls Navigate Their Way to the Top of the Southern Nebraska Conference

    By Dean BackesDecember 1, 2025

After pouring through oodles of statistics, all-state, all-conference and all-area teams, last year's state tournament bracket and plenty of postseason rankings, we have uncovered our Southern Nebraska Conference projections for 2025-26.

Milford beat everybody on its schedule a year ago not named Lincoln Christian and settled for the Class C1 Girls State Runner-Up hardware in March. Only time will tell if the Eagles are headed for that kind of season again, but Bryce Roth's club has the pieces to make another run at it.

Roth lost four seniors due to graduation that averaged more than 33 points a contest going into the State basketball tournament. Back for Roth, however, is a quartet of players that could produce some big numbers beginning with sophomore Shayla Rautenberg who averaged 14.0 points and 8.9 rebounds a game.

The 6-foot-3 center added 26 assists, 21 steals and 64 blocked shots to her stat line to earn Second Team Class C1 All-State honors from both the Omaha World Herald and the Lincoln Journal Star as just as freshman.

Junior Ashlynn Miller posted a stat line of 10.1 points and 5.5 boards a game and 20 assists, 16 steals and 13 blocked shots while sophomore Abby Crabtree and senior Kylie Jakub combined for 6.1 points and 3.3 boards a contest a year ago.

If there is a Southern Nebraska Conference club that can throw a wrench in Milford's plans, it may well be Thayer Central who went 18-7 a year ago and returns a ton of experience. Erin Kowalski's roster includes junior Paige Tietjen. The 5-foot-6 guard poured in 15.7 points and ripped down 5.2 rebounds a contest to go with 51 assists, 54 steals and 10 blocked shots.

Sophomore Leah Havel posted a stat line that included 9.2 points and 5.9 boards a game and 48 assists, 35 steals and 15 blocked shots while junior Addie Marsh chipped in 7.4 points and 2.8 rebounds to go with 27 assists, 41 steals and six blocked shots. Senior Piper Havel and junior Olivia Wiedel combined for 10.3 points and 12.0 boards a contest.

    Enough of my rambling. Enjoy!
