Sutton Boys Stampedes its Way to the Top of the Southern Nebraska Conference

    By Dean BackesNovember 22, 2025

After outscoring South Loup 58-48 in first round action of the C2-8 Subdistrict Tournament a year ago, Sutton dropped road contests to Cross County and Cedar Catholic in the C2-8 Subdistrict Final and the C2-5 District Final respectively, closing out the Mustang season at 18-7.

Following a long offseason, Sutton seniors Payton Reed, Keith Kliewer and Jacob Huxoll are back and ready to guide Jon Ladehoff's Mustangs to another successful season.

Reed, a 6-foot-6 small forward, is Ladehoff's top returning scorer after producing a stat line of 11.1 points and 5.7 rebounds a game and chalking up 22 assists, 15 steals and 10 blocked shots on the year to earn Third Team All-Southern Nebraska Conference honors.

A six-foot guard, Kliewer added 5.8 points and 1.2 boards a night and was credited with 42 assists and eight steals on the year while Huxoll, a 6-foot-2 power forward, knocked down 6.4 points and reeled in 3.8 rebounds to go with 16 assists, 12 steals and four blocked shots.

Fillmore Central put together a fantastic 21-6 campaign a year ago that ended with a Class C1 State Tournament quarterfinal loss to Lincoln Lutheran who eventually took home the third-place hardware. Panther head coach Derek Reinsch will build his 2025-26 squad around junior Joey Stoner.

Stoner, a 6-foot-1 guard, averaged 10.2 points and 3.0 rebounds and posted 37 assists, 32 steals and a blocked shot a year ago. Sandy Creek Co-head coaches Tyler Colvin and Cole Wiseman return sophomore Kamerin Sealey and junior Wes Biltoft as they try to improve on last season's 15-11 record.

    Enough of my rambling. Enjoy!
