Momentum and Deep Roster Crowns Wynot Over Wausa in Boys Lewis and Clark Conference Race

    By Dean BackesNovember 18, 2025

After pouring through oodles of statistics, all-state, all-conference and all-area teams, last year's state tournament bracket and plenty of postseason rankings, we have uncovered our Lewis and Clark Conference projections for 2025-26.

Wynot dropped a 70-62 decision to Wausa last December to fall to 3-2 on the young season. The Blue Devils, however, rebounded to win 18 of their final 24 games to finish the season with a 21-8 record and the Class D2 State Runner-Up hardware.

During the latter run, Lee Heimes' club upended Wausa 61-58, 61-41 and 55-52 in the Class D2 State Tournament Semifinals to kick the door open to its title bout with St. Mary's who took the championship with a 63-51triumph.

Heimes returns plenty of talent from last year's squad, including four seniors. Devin Brummer comes back as Heimes' top returning scorer after he ripped the cords for 9.6 points a game a year ago, earning Third Team All-Lewis and Clark Conference honors. The 5-foot-8 point guard added 2.3 rebounds a game and 38 assists, 30 steals and three blocked shots on the year.

First Team All-Lewis and Clark guard Kotner Koch is back after pouring in 9.5 points and 3.8 rebounds to go with 44 assists, 50 steals and a blocked shot while shooting guard Justin Heimes scored 7.3 points and reeled in 3.9 rebounds a contest. Heimes was also credited with 26 assists, 43 steals and five blocked shots.

Kasen Koch returns for his final year after pouring in 6.7 points and grabbing 6.1 boards a game and contributed 19 assists, 19 steals and six blocked shots while junior Killian Steinhaus buried Wynot foes for 8.4 points and 4.2 rebounds a night and added 109 assists, 45 steals and seven blocked shots to his stat line.

Wausa brings back plenty of talent to make a deep postseason run itself. Viking head coach Tim Schindler welcomes back junior Matthew Schindler who belted Wausa foes for 12.1 points and 2.2 rebounds a game to go with 59 assists, 42 steals and five blocked shots.

Schindler's numbers earned the 5-foot-10 guard First Team Class D2 All-State honors in both the Omaha World Herald and the Lincoln Journal Star. Schindler also landed a spot on the Lewis and Clark Conference's First Team.

Junior Mac Carlson netted First Team All-Lewis and Clark honors after scoring 9.7 points and ripping down 4.2 rebounds a contest to go with 59 assists, 56 steals and 12 blocked shots while senior Preston Schlote tallied 8.8 points and 6.8 boards a game to go with nine assists, 29 steals and 24 blocked shots to garner recognition on the Lewis and Clark Conference's Third Team.

    Enough of my rambling. Enjoy!
